Banaue Lodge

Philipines
Year: 2024
Area: 135m²

Located in the mountains of Banaue, Philippines, Banaue Rice Terrace is seasonally popular with backpackers. As such, this creates demand for quality accommodation in the area. We propose a lodge design that is inspired by the local aesthetic value to fulfil this need. Including the site, local people, culture, materials, and traditional houses.

The lodge’s design concept is a vernacular architecture that is derived from the Ifugao traditional house. Therefore, to reflect the original function and proportions, the design will be comprised of three sections: the base as a communal space; the body as the storage compartment; and the head as the rest area. Keeping with traditional materials, wood and thatch will feature heavily in our design. Additionally, with a ramp connecting the three lodges, our design is able to offer an unparalleled 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding mountainside. The ramp and decking view are meant to give a mesmerizing Banaue Rice Terrace experience from a different viewpoints and height level. Backpackers are directed to walk while enjoying the landscape.
