Santorini in the Indonesian Context

Nestled in the hills of Senggigi Malimbu, Lombok, this boutique accommodation draws inspiration from the cliffs of Santorini, while responding sensitively to its Indonesian setting. Perched atop a coral hill, the architecture reflects the familiar aesthetic of Santorini, reinterpreted through the lens of local climate, culture, and materiality.

The design introduces shelter-focused forms expressed through clean, geometric masses. This approach not only references Mediterranean typologies but also adapts them to meet the spatial and climatic demands of Indonesia.

Here, space is not limited to the binary of interior and exterior. A series of transitional zones—neither fully inside nor out—emerge naturally as a response to the need for shade, airflow, and comfort. These in-between spaces become key elements in defining how the building is experienced, offering a nuanced architectural language that bridges global inspiration with local identity.
