ETU, which translates to ‘bathed in light’ in Greek or ‘Sun’ in Native American. This namesake adds value to café branding, just as the sun gives energy, coffee also gives more energy to people. To enhance this concept further, we want to apply it to both the exterior and interior design of the café, Light is certainly the primary theme this design will emphasise. By reflecting light off of the walls, floors, ceiling, and furniture, we are able to create a lot of indirect lighting. Therefore, the ambience in the room would be like being bathed in warm and gentle light. While soaking in the atmosphere, we expect that guests will be able to dine, work and chat comfortably. Not only indirect lights, direct lighting like spot lights, are also applied for functional needs and to support the interior ambience.
Curved edges are also applied throuhgout the interior and exterior design not only to create a more casual appearance but also to improve the light’s gradation. The ceiling, walls, and furniture blends with a bright and natural tone colour and curved materials.
Located in Denpasar, Bali, in a busy and tight area of the city, ETU Coffee appears as a white box mass with a simplify curves that is contrasted with the surrounding buildings. We utilise glass for the façade to bring in natrual light, which then reflected by the flooring surface throughout the entire room. Because the location is quite hidden from the main road, the glass façade for the exterior design might welcome visitors to stop by for a cup of coffee, and even to work from café.
